Google Authorship links your Google+ account to the search result and shows that you are the author of the content. Why is this important? Well, for one, by telling Google that you authored the content, you are establishing yourself as a trusted source. Trust is important because it means quality and quality means better rankings. As I’ve mentioned in previous blogs, Google is all about providing quality results for their users. By claiming authorship, you are putting a face to the web content and in effect, demonstrating that you are an expert on that particular subject.
So how do you set up Google Authorship? Well, first you need a Google+ account, which you should have anyway. While maybe not as popular as Facebook or Twitter, Google+ is Google’s social media platform. Although Google says they don’t play favorites, there’s a reason you don’t see “Facebook Authorship” popping up in search results. You’ll also want to make sure that you have a profile picture, which will be displayed in the search results. Be sure to smile!
